Beauty Talk Pigmentation

Beauty Talk Pigmentation

Beauty Talk Pigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is a frustrating skin condition that can seem impossible to treat. We are talking about dark spots, freckles, and melasma.  Harmless, but it can become a problem  if it takes a toll on your confidence.  We all like to have a natural-looking skin without foundation or a tinted moisturiser.  Hyperpigmentation is a treatable condition. There is skin care products that can help you combat hyperpigmentation.  It’s important to understand why Hyperpigmentation happens in the first place.

 Types of hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation comes in many forms.

Hyperpigmentation and what causes it

To understand hyperpigmentation, melanin is  the pigment that is responsible for skin color.   We all  produce melanin in our skin, which gives skin its color.
Melanin is formed from the successful delivery of tyrosinase, a pigment regulating enzyme, to the melanocytes, which is the cell that is responsible for producing melanin in the skin. When the melanocytes become damaged, unhealthy or hyperactive, melanin production will be affected. This causes skin patches that appear darker than the neighboring skin.

Melasma

Melasma presents as an uneven patch of brown to gray-brown discoloration on the face, especially on the cheeks and bridge of the nose. While men can experience melasma, this skin condition is more common in women.

Dark Spots

Dark Spots also known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, occur due to inflammation of your skin during the healing process of a bad breakout, wound or rash. The inflammation triggers the production of more melanin, which makes the skin appear darker.

Sun exposure

Pigmentation can become more intense during excess sun exposure. When UV rays connect with  the skin, it causes damage. In an attempt to restore your skin, your body produces more melanin and send signs of discolouration to the surface. This causes skin discoloration or uneven skin tone.

Hormonal changes

Being pregnant or taking birth control pills can cause  changes in estrogen and progesterone hormone levels. Overproduction of estrogen and progesterone hormones stimulates excessive melanin production. This can result in  Unsightly marked face and sometimes, the belly area.

Age

With age, the number of melanocytes decrease however the remaining ones increase in size and their distribution becomes more focused. This explains the increase of discolouration in the over 40 year age group.

Stress

Some studies have been done and found that a brain-skin connection exists, and that skin conditions may be provoked by stress as part of the body’s immune response mechanisms.

Products to treat Pigmentation

Look for brightening serums that feature ingredients such as Vitamin C, Vitamin A,  AHA,  niacinamide, dermabrasion

Skin Age by Years – Skin in the 20’s

Skin in your 20’s

Skin Age by Years – Skin in the 20’s In the 20’s Sunscreen is the ultimate skin saver.   There’s no question that UV exposure makes you look older than your years. It’s beieved sun exposure is responsible for about 75 percent of skin aging.   It’s time to really be aware every time you go out in the sun that it’s causing damage and premature aging.  The signs may not be that showing in the 20’s, but be assured the damage is being done every time you allow exposure without protection.   It’s not too late to start protecting your skin. For the best protection, look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 50

Early 20s, your skin looks bright, bouncy, and plump due to the favourable levels of the naturally occurring protein in the body. Research in the past has shown that your skin produces about one percent less collagen each year,

May start to see some sun damage at this age,  While it’s not entirely possible to get rid of sun damage, you can fade visible signs with the use of ingredients, like hyaluronic acid and antioxidants, into your routine to avoid further damage.  Hyaluronic acid boosts moisture retention and prevents/diminishes fine lines.

During your 20s, your skin, which used to turn over cells very quickly, starts to slow down.  When the cell turnover slows down, dead cells can build up more easily on the surface and can cause discolouration. It can also cause your skin to lose its elasticity. By using a product with hyaluronic acid and antioxidants work together to add moisture back in the skin.  This can help to give more clarity, tone and even fade some premature spots and wrinkles.

By now, you should have a skincare routine that consists of cleansing, exfoliating, toning, and moisturizing — but the products you used in your early 20s start to be less effective if your not regular with your reutine.  Now is an excellent time to start looking into the amzing arrange of anti-aging ingredients. “Looking for products with  is ideal at this age and the future to look the best you can.  Vitamin A  (Retinol) (Retinol stimulates a quicker renewal of skin cells and aids in forming new collagen)  it will give the appearance of strong complexion and make wrinkles less noticeable.   In addition to Vitamin A, using serums and other products with hyaluronic acid can plump the skin and make fine lines minimal.  This is the time to start using serums which can firm and tighten skin and also improve collagen production.

Skin Age by Years – Skin in the 20’s Skin Routine

Choose the Correct Cleansing Routine

Cleansing correctly is the first step to getting clear looking skin. Choose a cleanser that is gentle and will not disrupt your skins natural barrier.

Use a foam, gel, or oil cleanser that detoxifies and clarifies the skin.

Use the correct cleansers that remove dirt, oil, and impurities that clog pores. This ensures helping stop acne before it starts and treating active acne.

Cleansing at least twice a day. ( always cleanse after a gym workout)   When cleansing in a normal routine cleanse twice a day. Always be sure to work the cleanser into and around the skin in a circular motion for at least 2 minutes. This allows the cleaner enough time to breakthrough any residue and to penetrate the pore area.

Choose the Correct Exfoliating Routine

When exfoliating use gentle exfoliants twice to three times a week.  If the skin is sensitive try Fleur De Mer Daily Mini Peel Powder, massage extremely gently or even just leave on so that the Salicylic Acid can peel away the top layer of your skin without any roughness. Rinse after about 1 minute. Healthier, soothed skin is not only noticeable but felt as well.

Choose the Correct Creams

As mentioned above now is an excellent time to start looking into the amzing arrange of anti-aging ingredients. Collagen Serum is great to start using at this age to give a regular boost to the skin.  Perhaps start trying different serums it in a home routine mini facial weekly.

Acne in Teenagers

Acne in Teenagers

Acne

Acne in Teenagers

Acne definitions explain it as a  skin disorder that occurs when hair follicles.  (All our pores on our face are actually part of a follicle)  Follicles become plugged with dead skin cells and oil. That mixture of oil and cells allows the bacteria responsible for acne, Propionibacterium acnes, to gather inside the follicle instead of remaining on skin’s surface, where it normally sits without causing problems.

Breakouts

Acne in Teenagers When the sebum and other clogged materials are exposed to the air, they turn black (a process called oxidation). Bacteria can grow in the blocked pores and produce an inflammation, otherwise known as pimples.  If there are pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads, but no deep cysts, it’s called superficial acne or acne vulgaris. If the pimples go down deeper into the skin, and there are cysts filled with pus, it’s called deeper acne. If not treated right away, it can leave scars if not treated properly.

Stress and your general health can cause breakout also, so make sure you keep those stress hormones down.  Lifestyle factors like lack of sleep, poor nutrition, dehydration and smoking can have a huge impact on your skin. Ensure that you’re getting plenty of sleep at night and your drinking plenty of water. This will hydrate and flush out your system, for overall good health.

Treating Acne

Choose the Correct Cleansing Routine

Cleansing correctly is the first step to getting clear looking skin. Choose a cleanser that is gentle and will not disrupt your skins natural barrier.

Use a foam, gel, or oil cleanser that detoxifies and clarifies the skin.

Use the correct cleansers that remove dirt, oil, and impurities that clog pores. This ensures helping stop acne before it starts and treating active acne.

Cleansing at least twice a day will help in treating acne, Keeping the pores as clean as possible with help to break down and discourage bacteria to form. This will also help the inflammation.  Be sure to not use contaminated towels after workouts, always use a clean towel to pat skin.   When cleansing in a normal routine cleanse twice a day. Always be sure to work the cleanser into and around the skin in a circular motion for at least 2 minutes. This allows the cleaner enough time to breakthrough any residue and to penetrate the pore area.

Choose the Correct Exfoliating Routine

In Acne in Teenagers  Acne-prone skin sheds approximately 4 times the amount of dead skin cells as regular skin, hence this dead skin clogs up the pores.  Harsh exfoliating can actually make things worse.  Using a gentle exfoliant more frequently can help lift the dead skin cells more effectively.

 Treating Spots and blemishes

It’s most important to keep an acne treatment on hand at all times to fight outbreaks that pop up. Apply an Feur De Mer Acne relief Serum, gently apply or pat one drop on to affected areas at least 4 times a day and every few hours.  Remember to apply only to perfectly clean skin.

You can apply a spot treatment as soon as you see any signs of the blemishes appear. An acne relief treatment will clear up the affected area and stop the desire to popping and playing with a pimple.  Popping pimples cause embarrassing inflammation of the area and can leave nasty scarring.

Skin Age by Years – Teenage Skin

Skin Age by Years - Teenage Skin

Skin Age by Years – Teenage Skin

Skin Age by Years – Teenage Skin must be really looked after with tender care. As the teenage body begins to mature the skin must also adjust to a number of factors, including hormones, which significantly changes its structure and function.  Generally, teenage skin is tougher and more resilient, it’s still elastic and able to regenerate quickly. Teenagers encounter some distinct dermatologic problems, including acne, and the skin requires special care.  Setting a good routine for skin care and sun protection at puberty is most important, consistency is paramount.

The corneocytes is the outermost part of the epidermis (top of the skin).  The corneocytes of teenagers are larger than in children, and the turnover, or renewal, of new layers of skin, becomes less frequent. Teenage skin still contains an abundance of the proteins elastin and collagen which give skin its plumpness and flexibility.  As we age the reduction in these proteins causes elderly skin to become more fragile. While teenage skin is still supple and elastic, teenage skin thickens and becomes tougher, making it more resilient.

Puberty brings about the maturation (the formation of pus in a boil, abscess, etc) of the hair follicles, sebaceous glands and sweat glands in the skin. Probably the biggest change to occur within skin during the teenage years can be the vastly increased production of oil or sebum.  This is caused by a surge in the sex hormones estrogen, androgen and progesterone which stimulate the sebaceous glands. This is where it can vary between teen to teen with different experiences while going through these changes.  For many teens this is a very trying time, it’s most important to use a good skin routine and to keep the skin in a healthy condition.

At adolescence, the lipid (fat) content of both male and female skin rises considerably,  the higher fat content helps to retain moisture, making teenage and young adult skin less susceptible to drying out.

To combat the increased production of sebum, experts recommend that adolescents wash their face once or twice daily with warm water and soap-free cleanser. Excessive cleansing or scrubbing should be avoided as it tends to dry out the skin and cause irritation. Following this, an oil-free moisturiser can be applied.

Examples of antioxidants include: Retinol (Vitamin A),  Alpha-lipoic acid, Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), Nicotinamide (vitamin B3), Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), N-Acetyl-Glucosamine (NAG),
